On May 23, the Solana Foundation, a non-profit that oversees the next-gen layer-1 Solana blockchain, integrated artificial intelligence (AI) with its ChatGPT plugin. Developed by Solana Labs, this plugin provides access to an array of features that allow developers to build cutting edge consumer-oriented applications. With this plugin, users can now buy nonfungible tokens (NFTs), transfer tokens, examine transactions, and interpret public account data. Also, developers can conduct searches for NFT collections based on floor prices on the Solana blockchain. Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko views the integration of AI as a disruptive computing strategy.
In order to further explore the relationship between blockchain and AI, the Solana Foundation increased its grant fund from the original $1 million to $10 million. Already, around 50 applications for the grants program have been submitted. Alongside the grants program is the new three-month-long accelerator program designed for university students. Through this program, a cohort of talented individuals will have the opportunity to experiment with this two-in-one technology and have already designed an ‘Ask Solana U’ chatbot from the process.
Furthermore, Hivemapper, another initiative related to the Solana ecosystem, announced the launch of AI Trainer recently. This integration to the Solana blockchain enables real-world imaging to be converted into detailed digital maps — including speed limits, warning signs, and other street information — and has already generated 5.7 million AI training reviews and 500,000 classified objects.
