ISESCO Chair in Machine Learning for Remote Sensing Established via Agreement

Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) today signed an agreement to create the ISESCO Chair for Machine Learning in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems. The agreement was signed by HH Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, SQU Vice-Chancellor, and Dr. Salim Mohammed Al Malik, ISESCO Director-General.

The aim of this agreement is to share knowledge and expertise, and promote progress in the fields of competence belonging to ISESCO. This agreement will also enable both professors, scientists and university administrators to benefit from the partnership. The creation of the chair is in line with the academic goals of Sultan Qaboos University.

For over forty years, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) has been a major academic, research and teaching center in the Gulf region. Located in the capital city of Muscat, it enjoys a reputation for providing world-class educational and research facilities to its students. It also has notable collaborations with universities and research centers from around the world.

ISHESCO is a specialized organization of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. It is responsible for promoting cooperation among its member states in educational, scientific, cultural, communication and information services, and building bridges of understanding among them. ISESCO plays an important role in developing member states in the areas of science, education and culture.

This agreement between ISESCO and SQU will help to promote scientific progress in the region and enhance the quality of education and research in the machine learning space. It is a testament to the commitment of SQU to uphold its academic mission and ISESCO’s to promote cooperation and recognition of scientific excellence among its members.
