ChatGPT Used For Résumé Writing – Poor Results and Pretentious Quality

Date:

Writing a great résumé can be an arduous task. Fortunately, there is now a helping hand provided by the ever-evolving world of artificial intelligence. In an effort to create a sharp and competitive résumé, ChatGPT – OpenAI’s chatbot that has the potential to assist people in résumé writing – was tested. Sadly, the results of this experiment proved less than promising, offering flowery phrases and needless words of exaggeration.

But the experiment was not without a silver lining. ChatGPT did have some useful ideas, such as an executive summary. While the summary provided may typically be considered too grandiose, it can certainly be tailored according to an individual’s needs. Additionally, the suggested words – such as ‘collaborate’ and ‘showcase’ – were a great way to make the résumé more impactful.

Still, there remains a lot of work to be done when it comes to résumé writing. It calls for careful mindfulness, the display of skill and experience, and the ability to satisfy the needs of future employers without coming across as an arrogant blowhard. For those embarking upon this endeavor for the first time, there is a learning curve that should not be taken lightly.

Which is why it is important to keep in mind that while ChatGPT may be useful as a source of inspiration, the writing is still largely up to the individual. It calls for an understanding of your skills, a commitment to research, and a certain level of modesty when writing about achievements.

The key to a successful résumé is to be honest, professional, and to highlight specific accomplishments in line with the targeted job. In doing so, a résumé can come alive in the hands of a skilled writer. ChatGPT may assist with some of the details, but it will still take many hours of diligent work to bring it all together.
