ChatGPT App on iPhone Reportedly Causes Overheating and Battery Drain

Date:

Last week, OpenAI officially released the ChatGPT app for iPhone users in the United States. This makes it easier for users who wish to access the popular AI chatbot from the convenience of their phone. However, people who are using Android devices need to wait a bit more, as the Android version is yet to launch in the upcoming future.

The new feature-packed iOS version of ChatGPT has been generally received positively. However, it has not gone without issues, as users who have downloaded the ChatGPT app for their iPhone have reported that their phones are facing overheating and battery draining issues. Reddit users revealed that soon after the app starts generating a response to their enquiry, it starts to heat up or run out of battery quickly.

There is no definite explanation for the problems caused by the app, but one user on Reddit speculated that this could be due to the utilization of the hardware components of the iPhone, such as the Apple Neural Engine chip. Some people have put it down to the fact that developers did not optimize the app before its release, and it may be necessary in order to prevent the fake ChatGPT apps that try to collect users’ money for subscriptions.

Meanwhile, users have tried several solutions to try and sort out the issue, such as switching off haptic feedback, rebooting the phone, and reinstalling the app. None of them have been successful. As of yet, Apple and OpenAI have not commented on the matter, but it is possible they may issue an update soon to fix the issues.
