Today’s News: ChatGPT App, Meta Workforce Reduction, Twitter and Microsoft Dispute

Date:

Today is the day all tech enthusiasts have been waiting for – the new ChatGPT app has been launched for iPhones and iPads in the US. It comes from OpenAI, the leading artificial intelligence (AI) platform that researches natural language processing. By having the app, the user’s history will be synced across devices, all without ads. This release has sparked many fraudulent versions of the app, though OpenAI promises that up to Android devices and other countries will soon be coming out with their own version of the app.

Meta, a social media giant, is not too far behind. It has recently confirmed upcoming layoffs that will take place next week, with the majority affecting the company’s business organizations. Last month, the company already reduced its workforce by 4,000, foreshadowing what was to come. What’s more, this is not the first time they have had to let go of employees – they recently also gave 11,000 workers their notice late last year.

No surprises here – there is a bit of mystery circling around Twitter and Microsoft over data usage. Twitter founder Elon Musk’s lawyer stepped in to demand a data audit from the software maker claiming that it had abused large amounts of data from Twitter. Musk himself has claims that Microsoft and OpenAI had used the data illegally. In further asserting his case, Musk’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, brought up the fact that Microsoft had already retrieved over 26 billion tweets from the platform. Microsoft responded that they will review the letter and then go forward with further action.
