Apple is in the process of actively bringing in experts in generative AI to its business. The Cupertino giant has put out a dozen job postings requiring machine learning specialists passionate about building autonomous systems. This move comes after CEO Tim Cook quickly acknowledged generative AI’s potential during an earnings call earlier this month. Moreover, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple recently restricted its employees to use OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other third-party AI tools for security reasons.
This push to bring new generative AI talent to Apple comes as no surprise, especially given the company’s profound history with consumer AI applications, such as its 2011 launch of the Siri voice assistant. Apple also has a reputation of recruiting the best AI talent from startups and universities. However, recently Apple has fallen behind the competition due to the latest advances in the technology, hence the motivatic to hire more experts in this field.
Apple is looking for visual generative AI professionals in a variety of teams located all across San Diego, the Bay Area, and Seattle. Moreover, the experts will work on applications related to computational photography, image and video editing, 3D shape and motion reconstruction, as well as avatar generation. It is worth noting that Apple is concurrently developing its own generative AI products, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
In addition to Apple, numerous other companies have put out similar restrictions on use of external AI tools. However, with more AI-enabled apps rolling out and Apple actively looking to add more talent in this domain, the company is expected to make an announcement about generative AI during the upcoming WWDC developer conference. Excitingly, many have speculated that a highly-anticipated AR/VR headset could also be revealed at the event.
