Half of Workers Unaware of Company’s AI Usage, Survey Reveals

Date:

A new survey has found that almost half of workers feel left in the dark about how their company plans to use AI. Zokri, a software development platform commissioned the survey which was conducted by Savanta, a market research agency. The survey questioned 2,011 workers from the US and UK and uncovered that 50% of them indicated being kept in the dark about AI and its use within their workspace.

Workers communicated a fear of the potential impacts, with two-thirds expecting AI use to increase in the coming year. The anxiety around job security and a feeling of “death” of industries as a result of AI adopting was also reported.

However, 69% of employees say a more transparent plan of how AI will be integrated would ease their worries. Understanding the ins and outs of its use would give workers more of a sense of security and in some cases might even bring great benefits. Matt Roberts, the co-founder of Zokri, expressed the need to build closer ties and a communication plan when it comes to AI adoption.

OpenAI’s recently released Chatbot, ChatGPT has brought to light the power of AI and its capabilities of writing, coding and engaging in conversations. This has resulted in fears of increased automation and has seen a number of companies use AI to enhance their processes. For instance, an energy CEO introduced an AI to respond to customer emails, producing the work of 250 people. Wendy’s is also running an AI experiment, replacing customer service representatives with a chatbot to take orders in drive-thrus.

Finally, Zokri’s co-founder Matt Roberts concluded by stressing that implementing AI into companies without some semblance of communication could result in a sense of alienation and fear. This would also adversely affect AI’s successful implementation and adoption.
