Reka’s Autonomous Perodua Bezza: Software, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

At the renowned 2023 Malaysia Autoshow, a project was conducted involving an autonomous vehicle test bed built and operated by Malaysian artificial intelligence automation company Reka. The test bed was built using a Perodua Bezza and its main point of focus was software and machine learning. To enable autonomous driving, modifications were made to the existing driver controls for the steering, brakes and throttle.

In addition to cameras, lidar and radar sensors, an artificial intelligence onboard the test bed helps recognize and understand obstacles in order to accurately navigate and respond to a wide range of scenarios. The demonstration, which was held at MAEPS, however was done at a much slower pace as it was still in its testing phase.

Apart from the Singapore port efficiency project – to reduce the chances of human error, the firm is also innovating crowd analytics for indoor navigation, thus expanding the potential of autonomous vehicles for industrial and public uses.

Reka COO Mohd Amri Mohd Din is a robotics expert and entrepreneur with nearly two decades of experience, who has lead the way to the advancement of autonomous technology for industrial applications. Mohd Amri and Reka hope to show off the potential of autonomous vehicle technology and how it can benefit various industries.

Meanwhile, the company is based in Cyberjaya and this is where the autonomous vehicle testing is being done, hence for convenience. With its ongoing projects in the AI sector, Reka is certain to make a name for itself, both locally and internationally. On top of that, it is looking towards its future endeavours in the realm of autonomous automobiles.
