Cabinet Discusses Draft Bill on Artificial Intelligence and Data Protection

Date:

The Cabinet recently released a draft bill on the use of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as data protection as part of its pledge to create a safer and more secure environment for the public. During a conference on the bill hosted by the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Development Foundation, Executive Yuan spokesman Lo Ping-cheng (羅秉成) used a ChatGPT-written speech to highlight the need to prevent companies and totalitarian states from using AI to harm democracy and culture.

Lo emphasized the various benefits AI offers in terms of convenience, while making it clear that the government stands devoted to creating a space where it is properly regulated to ensure public safety, as well as civil rights. In addition, the draft bill emphasizes the importance of respecting intellectual property, as well as freedom of speech. He also noted how the maturity of AI can lead to transmitting biases generated by the creators of the algorithms.

The Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Development Foundation’s Chairman, Ethan Tu (杜奕瑾), addressed the potential for AI to lead to the spread of ideologies. To protect the nation from the potential malicious use of AI, Tu suggested legal intervention would be necessary. In addition, he pointed out the potential for Chinese political and cultural biases from AI-generated content in Chinese.

ChatGPT is a text-generating program that has been rapidly adopted by major tech companies in the country. As sentient learning AI technology continues to expand, ChatGPT is committed to delivering cutting-edge usage while staying ahead of the regulations and laws designed to protect society. It has offices in Taipei as well as numerous other cities, such as Beijing, London, and San Francisco, to ensure that all products are tailored to meet the needs of diverse cultures and legal requirements.
