Good News for Some: RTX 4090 Prices Dropping

Date:

After months of high demand, Nvidia’s RTX 4090 graphics card is finally starting to drop in price – but the biggest savings may be primarily limited to Europe. Despite its $1,599 launch price, shoppers in the US can now find the PNY XLR8 model going for $1,549.99 on Amazon – though most models still surpass the original retail price.

European buyers, however, have lucked up in terms of savings. Since February, the price for Nvidia’s Founders Edition model has steadily decreased from €1,949 to €1,769, with some third-party models going for even cheaper. Similarly, the card is now going for £1,546.51 on Amazon in the UK.

It appears that Nvidia significantly overestimated the launch price of the RTX 4090, and its consistent drops could indicate a sharp decline in orders. With Nvidia’s emphasis on AI over gaming, its hardware likely won’t see much of a return from the gaming industry, especially with the release of the more affordable RTX 4070.

In the end, it may not be worth the investment in the RTX 4090 unless you do a lot of graphic design work or require intense GPU power for scientific modeling. The RTX 4070 is more than enough for most PC gamers, and can even handle 4K resolutions with the help of DLSS 3 upscaling tech.

Nvidia is known as one of the leading companies in the computer hardware industry and is renowned for creating some of the best graphics cards available. Its RTX series was creating buzz for its ray-tracing capabilities and although the demand for the RTX 4090 was high at launch, it looks like the price cuts may be part of a shift in interest in favor of Nvidia’s other models.

The individual mentioned in the article is Jim Pence, the lead program manager at Nvidia’s GeForce division. Pence is well-known in the gaming industry and has been at the forefront of developing the GeForce RTX GPUs. He was the champion of the RTX 4090 and has likely been affected by the decrease in demand for the graphics card.
