YouTube TV has just achieved its first-ever Technical Emmy win with its suite of features called ‘Views’. These features enable users to watch sports highlights, key plays, player stats, game scores and more. At the 74th annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards, YouTube TV was presented with the award for the category of “AI-ML Curation of Sports Highlights.” Kathryn Cochrane, YouTube TV’s group project manager, expressed her pride in leading the team responsible for delivering Views for YouTube members.
The Key Plays feature has already been used in more than 10 million watch sessions. World Cup games, regular season NFL games and Premier League matches are the most common sports events that are viewed with the help of Key Plays. It offers viewers with a one-of-a-kind experience, as it allows them to review important plays whenever they occur in a game.
When Views was first released in 2018, it was available for basketball, baseball, football and hockey. Later on, soccer and golf were also added to the list. Initially, the suite of features was accessed through phones and tablets, but now it is accessible across different platforms including smart TVs and mobile devices. Through this platform, users are also able to take advantage of the Fantasy Football View, which is a mobile-only feature. This allows them to link their fantasy football account when viewing NFL games on YouTube TV and see how their team is performing in real time. The Jump to function is incredibly helpful for users who are watching a tennis match or the Olympics, and for those who wish to get to a certain segment quickly.
Recently, YouTube TV launched a multiview feature, allowing some users to watch four games at once. Furthermore, the success of the YouTube team leading up to this feature’s award is a peak into their capabilities and proven leadership within the media industry. Google and YouTube have revolutionized the way we experience media and their innovative initiatives have created a brighter future for the industry as a whole.
