Windows 11 Update: 3 Features I Adore and One I Dislike

Date:

Microsoft’s Windows 11 update has arrived and while there are certainly a lot of exciting features to be experienced, the one that might be stirring up the most conversation is the addition of ads in the Start menu. Windows 11 (KB5025239) brings a plethora of new features and bug fixes, such as subtle changes to the taskbar, updates for accessibility, and the integration of Windows LAPS (Local Administrator Password Solution).

For those not in the know, the LAPS software helps system admins to manage the passwords of local accounts on Windows devices, including storing the passwords and their encryption in the cloud, and automating the process of password rotation.

There’s also a new Bing AI chat mode that comes with the latest update, for those who want to access it through Microsoft Edge – however, some users don’t appreciate this addition. Another small, but important, fix is that PowerPoint no longer crashes when accessibility tools are used.

Though plenty of features, especially those geared towards security, are being welcomed with open arms, the beginning of ads appearing inside the Start menu has proven to be divisive. Microsoft has yet to roll this feature out to a wider audience and while they are examining feedback on the feature, it’s already caused quite a stir.

Microsoft is no stranger to controversy, often being blamed and chastised for a lack of transparency or imposing unwanted features but it becomes a necessity to keep up with trends to remain as a competitor in the tech industry. Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates, who stepped down from his role as CEO in 2000 to focus on his philanthropic activities and succeeded by Satya Nadella. Under his leadership and aggressive marketing strategies, Microsoft has made a huge comeback in the world of technology, returning from being an outlier in the industry to one of the most recognizable tech companies globally.
