A leak regarding the upcoming Windows 11 operating system has given us a glimpse of Microsoft’s latest artificial intelligence (AI) assistant feature, Copilot. The AI assistant feature is powered by Bing Chat and pops up in a side panel to help Windows 11 users. While the pre-release version shown in the leak isn’t fully functional, it was still able to give us an idea of what to expect from the much grander vision of Cortana in Windows 11. The clip shows a user instructing Copilot to turn on Dark Mode, and there is also a response to a food-based question. Microsoft is said to be using in-house plug-ins to customize the Bing Chat experience in Windows 11, and Copilot will use action cards to detect how users are using the OS and offer intelligent suggestions based on that. While we’ve not heard anything from Microsoft since the initial announcement in June, it seems unlikely that a preview build with functional Copilot will show up anytime soon. However, things seem to be coming into place for Copilot’s release to be tested in preview. Microsoft will need to take a lot of internal testing to avoid any potential blunders.
