Web Summit Qatar is set to take place in Doha, Qatar from February 26 to 29, with the aim of empowering underrepresented tech founders from marginalized communities. The event will bring together tech entrepreneurs, investors, and startups at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).
The organizers of Web Summit Qatar expressed their goal to strengthen the voices of tech founders from underrepresented communities and create more equitable opportunities within the industry. They highlighted the limited opportunities and lack of funding faced by business founders from underrepresented communities as major challenges in the current business landscape. African startups, in particular, face significant obstacles in accessing investment and networking opportunities.
Among the startups participating in the event is Kamsiparts, a Lagos-based automotive value chain B2B2C tech startup. The company offers an online and offline distribution platform for automotive parts and aims to digitize the fragmented and informal automotive value chain sector. By doing so, Kamsiparts expects to achieve transparent pricing, higher customer satisfaction, and fewer supply chain bottlenecks.
Another participating startup is Safakat, based in Algiers, which offers a semi-decentralized SaaS system for bids and tenders. Safakat provides industry-compliant solutions that streamline workflows and increase productivity for businesses across various sectors.
Seed Apps Empire, based in Lagos, is developing an AI-powered smart machine that can iron clothes. The startup aims to revolutionize the ironing process with their innovative technology.
Tribease, a pan-African cardless credit charge platform based in Nigeria, will also be featured at the summit. The platform enables customers to freely consume products and services from registered merchants. Customers can spend from a limited credit supply, referred to as a kitty, and repay the amount owed at the end of the month.
With over 7,500 participants, including 300 investors and 500 media partners, Web Summit Qatar expects a substantial increase in women’s participation. The summit strives to bring together the Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African markets in Doha over the course of four days.
In conclusion, Web Summit Qatar aims to empower underrepresented tech founders by providing them with networking, investment, and development opportunities. The event’s focus on inclusive participation and creating a level playing field for startups from marginalized communities highlights the importance of diversity and equal opportunities within the tech industry. This summit has the potential to drive positive change and foster innovation within underrepresented communities, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and equitable tech landscape.
