Using OpenAI’s GPT-4, a game developer tested the capabilities of the large language model by seeing if it was able to entirely code a game. Wyatt Cheng, a game director at Blizzard Entertainment, experimented with ChatGPT and Flappy Bird and shared a video of his findings on his personal YouTube channel. Cheng guided the AI by using natural language and was able to produce a functional recreation of the game without writing a single line of code. Although ChatGPT aided him in recreating Flappy Bird and other titles, such as SkyRoads, developers still had to work in conjunction with the tool in order to troubleshoot issues.
Microsoft is taking this idea a step further and is introducing a tool called GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio 2022. This tool will use AI to better understand the context of code and make suggestions by following prompts in normal language just like ChatGPT did. It can also fill in code based on the user’s comments and is even capable of generating the code itself.
