Vanderbilt University has partnered with Coursera to launch a free online Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT course, offering a way for people to gain the understanding they need to use ChatGPT productively. Jules White, the associate dean for strategic learning programs and the associate professor of computer science at Vanderbilt, designed the course to teach people the patterns and approaches that will help them get the most out of the powerful AI tool.
ChatGPT has the potential to be a more powerful tool than the cell phone, yet many people may not be comfortable enough using it to realise its true potential. The Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT course gives people the knowledge they need to write high-quality prompts to generate high-quality outputs.
The course starts from the basics and gradually covers more challenging material, such as problem-solving in any domain, summarisation, writing, coding, and more. This self-paced course can be completed in as little as 18 hours, and only requires users to have basic computer skills. At a cost of $49, participants can receive a certificate after completing the course.
Vanderbilt faculty, staff and students can also take advantage of Coursera for Vanderbilt, and take the course at no cost. Additionally, the university has launched a range of academic programs in partnership with Coursera. Those who are interested in developing a new online program, course, or certificate can seek support from the Office of Digital Education.
