In November 2022, OpenAI launched its ChatGPT AI-powered chatbot, quickly becoming a hot topic in the tech world. The AI chatbot provides a revolutionary way of interacting with technology and has caused a wave of competition between tech giants like Microsoft’s Bing and Google’s Bard, both of which are AI-driven chatbots.
ChatGPT has been used for a variety of purposes such as plotting movies, brainstorming side hustles and providing weight loss guidance. Until now, the only way to use ChatGPT was to visit its official website or use Bing AI back by ChatGPT. However, software developer and tech enthusiast, Federico Viticci, recently launched S-GPT, a shortcut to use ChatGPT on iPhones and other Apple devices.
The S-GPT shortcut offers Apple users an easier way to integrate the AI-powered chatbot into the device’s native system features, such as iOS, iPadOS, macOS and watchOS. This shortcut uses the OpenAI developer API to access the ChatGPT API and is compatible with both the existing ChatGPT 3.5 model and ChatGPT 4.
To use the shortcut, one needs to create an OpenAI account and set up a pay-you-go billing system as well as acquire a ChatGPT API key from the OpenAI settings page. Following this, the S-GPT shortcut can be installed to iPhones, iPads and Macs using the Shortcuts app. Interestingly, Viticci has managed to use S-GPT without incurring a large cost, as the ChatGPT API charges $0.002 per 1,000 tokens.
In addition to paving the way for AI-driven communications, Federico Viticci has been responsible for introducing several shortcuts to the Apple users. From creating custom playlists in the Music app, to analysing text in the clipboard, S-GPT can be used for a variety of applications.
Divya Bhati is a software developer and tech enthusiast who has developed this shortcut to help Apple users integrate the AI-powered chatbot for their use. His invention is free to use, but requires an OpenAI pay-as-you-go plan to unlock its full potential. Viticci has already managed to spend just $1.50 while using this shortcut and others are sure to benefit from his invention.
