US Special Operations Combat Disinformation Threats with AI-Powered Software
The US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has partnered with New York-based Accrete AI to deploy cutting-edge software that can detect disinformation threats on social media in real time. This software, powered by artificial intelligence (AI), will enable military forces to swiftly neutralize emerging narratives that pose a serious threat to US national security and civil society.
Accrete’s Argus anomaly detection AI software analyzes vast amounts of social media data, accurately capturing and analyzing emerging narratives. It then generates intelligence reports that enable military forces to effectively counter and neutralize disinformation threats before they gain traction.
The CEO and founder of Accrete AI, Prashant Bhuyan, emphasized the critical need to identify and predict social media narratives at an early stage. He explained that adversaries exploit vulnerabilities and manipulate behavior through the intentional spread of disinformation in the unregulated environment of social media. USSOCOM recognizes this need and has taken a proactive approach to combatting disinformation threats.
The US Department of Defense first partnered with Accrete AI in November 2022 to license the Argus platform. However, the collaboration doesn’t stop there. Accrete AI also plans to launch an enterprise version of their software, called Argus Social for disinformation detection, later this year. This version will offer protection against AI-generated synthetic media, including viral disinformation and deep fakes.
The enterprise version of Argus Social will not only help customers manage risks associated with AI-generated media, such as smear campaigns, but it will also autonomously generate relevant content to counter these malicious attacks. This proactive approach aims to mitigate the economic damage caused by the spread of AI-generated viral disinformation and deep fakes.
Prashant Bhuyan highlighted the urgent need for both government agencies and enterprises to manage the risks and opportunities presented by AI-generated synthetic media. Accrete AI believes that the market for AI capable of analyzing, predicting, and neutralizing malign AI-generated synthetic media is on the brink of exploding.
In conclusion, the US Special Operations Command is taking proactive measures to combat disinformation threats on social media. Their partnership with Accrete AI and the deployment of the Argus anomaly detection AI software will enable military forces to swiftly neutralize emerging narratives that pose a serious threat to national security and civil society. The enterprise version, Argus Social, will further assist customers in managing risks associated with AI-generated media and will autonomously generate counter-content to address these attacks. With the rise of AI-generated disinformation, the demand for advanced AI capabilities in predicting and neutralizing such threats is expected to surge in the near future.
