University of Ghana Graduates Urged to Strive for Excellence and Impact Society
The University of Ghana has called on its newly graduated students to strive for excellence and make a positive impact on society. During the university’s first congregation for the 2022/2023 cohort of students, the 310 graduates from the School of Law, Medical School, and School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences were encouraged to be solution-oriented and widen their reach.
Nana Adjoa Hackman, a lawyer and guest speaker, emphasized the importance of aspiring to greater heights and not losing sight of their duties and obligations after graduation. She urged the graduates to confront challenges, maintain a positive mindset, and continue learning and growing. Hackman shared her own experiences and advised the graduates to stay consistent, improve themselves, and uphold dignity, honesty, and integrity.
The guest speaker also highlighted the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area, which has a market of approximately 1.4 billion people and a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion. She encouraged the new Bachelor of Law graduates to explore the area of business law.
Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Vice Chancellor of the University, called on the graduates to make their mark in the world and raise the bar of excellence. She expressed gratitude for their resilience and dedication.
Looking forward, the Vice Chancellor announced the development of a five-year plan from 2024-2029, aimed at making the University of Ghana a more engaged institution in line with emerging trends in science, technology, innovations, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. She also mentioned the expansion of academic and residential infrastructure, including the completion of a 1200-bed student hostel.
Amfo highlighted the success of the one student one laptop initiative, which has seen close to 500 laptops donated, with 245 already distributed to students. This initiative aims to support students in their academic work.
