Leading universities in the United States are joining forces with edX to provide a MicroBootCamp program on Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The program is open to technology professionals seeking to develop core skills in these areas. The curriculum has been designed to meet the growing demand for courses on AI and ML among colleges and universities, given the increasing relevance of these fields across a wide range of disciplines. The first cohorts will commence in July 2023 and are available for enrollment through edX.org. The Machine Learning and AI MicroBootCamp is not tailored for beginners, as Python proficiency and expertise in mathematics, including multivariable calculus and statistics, are expected. Participants with programming work experience will have an advantage but it is not a requirement for enrolment.
The 10-week program offers a project-based curriculum with a blend of text, video, and graphics, and is structured around several subjects including supervised and unsupervised machine learning, neural networks, and natural language processing. Students can access live instructor support, an interactive learning assistant, and grading tools in real-time. Self-paced course work takes approximately 8-10 hours per week, and the program’s fee is $3,499.
“AI and machine learning aren’t just buzzwords; they’re the rocket fuel propelling us into the future, said Anant Agarwal, Founder of edX and Chief Platform Officer at 2U. He emphasized the importance of fast-tracking career readiness as the development of AI continues to transform the workforce.
In addition to the Machine Learning and AI MicroBootCamp program, edX introduced five new ChatGPT open courses. These free-to-audit courses aim to help individuals develop prompt engineering skills, which are vital for getting the most out of AI programs and tools available today. As per the press release, edX is committed to making education in these areas accessible to all.
Founded by Harvard and MIT in 2012 and acquired by 2U in 2021 for $800 million, edX has since partnered with various universities and organizations to provide thousands of online courses, professional certificates, boot camps, credit-bearing micro credentials, and degree programs in fields such as technology, science, healthcare, engineering, and business. It estimates that its enrolment levels surpassed 100 million students for all its various courses in the recent past.
