Ubisoft has recently made a major technological breakthrough in their department of Research & Development with the advent of their AI scriptwriting tool known as Ghostwriter. This tool will help game writers save time and craft better dialogue for NPCs in their games by providing some efficiencies. Ubisoft has clarified that Ghostwriter is not meant to replace writers, but to rather supplement them and savr them time.
Ben Swanson, an R&D scientist with La Forge Montreal, conceptualized Ghostwriter to efficiently write lines for NPCs, particularly when there’s a lot of them. Rather than writing a first draft from scratch, the writers can polish the samples which the AI generates. He demonstrated a rather intuitive graphical representation known as a bark tree which could be used to effectively generate biblically-suitable lines for instances like NPCs posing a challenge to drivers or the hunger specifically by revising the generated lines.
The introduction of AI scriptwriting tools has caused quite the stir in the gaming industry, with Ubisoft’s Ghostwriter particularly lauded. This tool is anticipated to be used in their upcoming multiple Assassin’s Creed titles as well as in other games as it offers great potential for streamlining efficient game development.
