UAE and Greece Strengthen Economic Relations Under Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
In a recent official working visit, led by H.E. Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President, a delegation representing government officials and private sector representatives from the UAE visited Greece to discuss economic relations within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.
During the visit, bilateral meetings were held with key officials, including Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece; George Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Kostas Skrekas, Minister of Development. The discussions highlighted the growing strategic ties between the two countries, particularly in vital sectors, reflecting a commitment to deeper cooperation and fostering further collaborations.
The UAE delegation and Greek officials discussed various areas of cooperation outlined in the UAE-Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed in November 2020. These include political cooperation, international humanitarian development, trade, investment, tourism, culture, energy, digital services, artificial intelligence, food, agriculture, defense, infrastructure, and logistics.
One significant development highlighted during the visit was the progress of the €4 billion joint investment fund established in May 2022. The fund has played a pivotal role in supporting key sectors of the Greek economy and facilitating investment activities since its inception.
Furthermore, the two sides explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in digital services, governmental services, and artificial intelligence. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in February 2023 between the UAE Ministry of Investment and the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance to lay the groundwork for investments in digital infrastructure, particularly focusing on data center projects in Greece.
Additionally, the UAE and Greece witnessed the signing of several agreements to further bolster economic cooperation and sustainable investments. These include partnerships between Mubadala Investment Company and the Hellenic Development Bank of Investments, as well as an agreement between Masdar and the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy under the GR-Eco Islands initiative.
Overall, the visit underscored the commitment of both countries to strengthen their ties and explore new avenues for collaboration across various sectors, emphasizing sustainable investments and long-term partnerships for mutual benefit.
