We are officially in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) innovation, with technology developing enough to enable it to take on any task from writing term papers to coding. Taking its place at the top of the list of AI capabilities is ChatGPT, developed by Open AI. Arguably one of the most remarkable of its achievements, ChatGPT lets users ask questions and receive comprehensive replies from the AI chatbot based on their answers provided. Though opinions may be divided on the ethics of using ChatGPT, TikTok users were quick to welcome its presence on the platform, especially in the world of fashion.
TikTok content creator Rachel Schwab took to the platform to test out the bot’s capabilities and found it greatly helpful in the area of fashion. When looking for possible outfit ideas, her experience with the bot switched from the simple such as how to wear a scarf to more complicated such as how to dress for a day out in New York City. She commented in an interview with Refinery29, “I really wanted to see if it could get me an actual result, like a good outfit. And I was wildly surprised.”
However, not everyone is as willing to trust ChatGPT’s fashion advice. TikTok content creator Siena Filippi noted that, while the ChatGPT’s reply was impressive, she wouldn’t consider wearing the suggested outfit. Emphasizing the importance of self-trust for fashion, Filippi said, “It was impressive that it could do what it could do, but it wasn’t necessarily something that I was like, ‘Oh, I would totally wear this.'”.
Open AI’s ChatGPT is one of the latest breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and its emergence has certainly made waves within the world of fashion. While some users have started to take advantage of its vast capabilities, there may still be some doubts surrounding its trustworthiness. Ultimately, even with the help of AI, fashion remains to be a very personal decision, based on style, self-trust and confidence.
