OpenAI has been recently confronted by the Italian authorities with an order concerning its AI chatbot, ChatGPT. This resulted from a data leak revealing users' chat histories and financial records, visible to the Garante, the Italian data protection authority. To protect users' data and rights, tech professionals, including Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak, have signed an open letter urging AI labs to stop training AI systems beyond GPT-4 level for six months. OpenAI now has twenty days to comply to the Garante's recommendations or face fines of up to 20 million euros.
OpenAI's ChatGPT introduced an AI chatbot which uses machine learning to generate natural language, passing the bar exam, 13 out of 15 AP exams, and the GRE Verbal exam with great scores. Recently, researchers and 186 universities tested the original version, ChatGPT, in accounting exams and published the results in Issues in Accounting Education. ChatGPT scored 47.4% and even though it outperformed humans with true/false and multiple choice questions, there was difficulty with higher order questions. Even so, it's clear that AI technology can revolutionize education.
