Synthesia Raises $90 Million to Develop AI-Powered Custom Avatars

UK-based startup Synthesia has raised $90m in a Series C funding round, led by Accel and featuring Nvidia, Kleiner Perkins, GV, Firstmark Capital, and MMC. The firm’s AI-driven avatar creation tech can generate synthetic video content for use across a range of industries, with customers including IHG, Moody’s Analytics, and Tiffany. Synthesia was valued at $1bn post-money following the round, up from $300m in December 2021. The company’s AI is trained on real actors and creates instructional videos featuring stock or bespoke avatars.
