Siriraj Hospital and Cariva (Thailand) Partner to Revolutionize Medical Treatment with AI
Siriraj Hospital’s Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with local artificial intelligence (AI) start-up Cariva (Thailand), is set to transform medical treatment through the utilization of AI technology. The partnership aims to enhance diagnostic accuracy, address physician shortages, and provide personalized care, thereby solidifying Thailand’s position as a medical hub.
During the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony, Dr. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, the faculty dean at Siriraj Hospital, emphasized the potential of AI in revolutionizing healthcare. By incorporating AI into their services, the hospital can overcome the scarcity of physicians, improve medical treatment outcomes, and offer individualized patient care. Additionally, the collaboration aims to foster the growth of medical AI and medtech start-ups.
Dr. Cherdchai Nopmaneejumruslers, the deputy dean for service innovation and organizational values at Siriraj Hospital, stressed that the project would contribute to strengthening Thailand’s AI medical ecosystem. By automating certain tasks, AI technology can alleviate the burden on medical staff who are currently grappling with heavy workloads.
The partnership between Siriraj Hospital and Cariva encompasses four key projects. The first project involves the establishment of the SiCAR Ai Lab, a platform dedicated to testing and developing medical AI. Through this lab, Thai start-ups will have the opportunity to enhance the efficiency of their medical AI technologies, resulting in improved health diagnosis outcomes and the overall development of the medical AI ecosystem.
The second project focuses on the development of RAD Scan AI by the Radiology Department at Mahidol University. This AI technology, created by Cariva, has the capability to read and analyze medical images, such as tumors, and generate 3D images. By reducing preparation time for medical staff, the RAD Scan AI will provide valuable support in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Siwadol Matayakul, the CEO and co-founder of Cariva (Thailand) Co, expressed his belief that the partnership with Siriraj Hospital would greatly assist in the commercialization of their product in the market. He further highlighted that the RAD Scan AI, originally developed using foreign data, would be tailored to better suit the data of local patients.
Another significant project involves the Siriraj Genomics Centre launching groundbreaking products, including NanoPGx, a pharmacogenomics offering based on nanopore technology. This high-precision process enables the analysis of genes related to potential medicine allergies on a population-independent basis, making it suitable for both local and foreign patients.
Lastly, the Center for Value Driven Care (VDC), an R&D center owned by Siriraj Hospital’s Faculty of Medicine, aims to facilitate innovative collaborations and integrate medical expertise with technological advancements. This center also has the potential to expand its scope to include AI medical incubation and accelerator programs, fostering further innovation in the healthcare industry.
Cariva (Thailand) Co, with the backing of AI and Robotics Ventures Co Ltd (ARV), a subsidiary of PTT Exploration and Production, has set its sights on becoming a unicorn start-up by 2028.
The partnership between Siriraj Hospital and Cariva (Thailand) is poised to revolutionize medical treatment by harnessing the power of AI technology. With a focus on enhancing diagnostic accuracy, addressing physician shortages, and providing individualized care, this collaboration represents a significant step towards establishing Thailand as a leading medical hub in the Asia-Pacific region. Through the development of cutting-edge AI solutions and the nurturing of innovative start-ups, Thailand’s healthcare ecosystem is poised for remarkable advancements that will benefit both patients and medical professionals alike.
