In September, Lord Justice Birss of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales used ChatGPT to summarize unfamiliar legal theories, employing the AI’s results directly in an official ruling. Birss referred to the AI as a jolly useful tool.
The latest guidance now enables British judges to experiment with AI, although the Judicial Office has highlighted some limitations and potential risks.
