Robot Chef Learns to Cook by Observing Humans Prepare Recipes

Date:

Researchers at the University of Cambridge have developed a robot, capable of watching cooking videos and then replicating the recipe. The robot uses computer vision to learn from videos, identifying ingredients and the process of creating a dish. The robot was trained using a neural network pre-programmed to recognize a variety of objects, including fruits and vegetables, and was able to identify the correct recipe 93% of the time. However, the robot’s success is still limited to straightforward recipes, as more complex dishes remain difficult to replicate. Researchers hope that by improving the robot’s ability to identify ingredients, it could learn from a wider range of recipes through social media.
