This innovation enables users to import recipes from social media nearly instantaneously, making meal planning and recipe management more efficient and seamless.
Developed by Will Bishop in 2022, Pestle initially aimed to address the challenges of finding recipes online, where cluttered websites often bury the recipe beneath a multitude of ads and unnecessary content. However, Bishop’s personal workaround of using Apple’s Notes app to store recipes lacked organization and efficiency, prompting him to create Pestle.
In addition to importing and organizing recipes from the web, Pestle offers features such as meal planning, creating shopping lists, accessing new recipes from creators, voice command navigation, and even cooking remotely with friends via Apple’s SharePlay on FaceTime. The latest update to the app responds to user demand for saving recipes from Instagram Reels, a task that many other recipe apps struggle to tackle efficiently.
Unlike other apps that rely on external processors like ChatGPT, Pestle’s use of on-device machine learning ensures speedy and accurate recipe parsing without compromising user privacy or service downtime.
