Parks and Recreation Stars Unite in Support of SAG-AFTRA Strike Outside Amazon Offices
Several beloved Parks and Recreation stars gathered outside the Amazon offices in Culver City, California to show their support for the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman, Adam Scott, Ben Schwartz, Sam Elliott, Jim O’Heir, Retta, and Allison Becker, along with the show’s iconic miniature horse Lil Sebastian, came together on the picket line.
During the demonstration, Plaza, known for her role as April Ludgate, held a sign that humorously referenced Rashida Jones’ character, Ann Perkins, with the message Ann Perkins works for the AMPTP. Retta, who played Donna Meagle, sported a poster stating, I sold that little red thing for health insurance.
This gathering follows earlier instances of support from the Parks and Recreation cast, with Scott and Offerman participating in picketing activities together. Their commitment to the cause was evident as Scott shared a photo on Instagram, stating, In solidarity on the picket line at Warner Bros with our fellow @sagaftra @wgawest @wgaeast members, my boyfriend @nickofferman + one bonus Jesse Plemons. Offerman also expressed his support on social media, emphasizing the importance of fair pay and labor rights.
Plaza has been actively vocal about the strike as well, sharing a photo of herself holding a sign that questioned whether fair wages were in place, stating, Do you have fair wages? It’d be a lot cooler if you did.
The SAG-AFTRA strike stemmed from unsuccessful contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Seeking pay and residual increases, higher pension and health contribution caps, and regulations on artificial intelligence use, among other demands, SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher delivered a passionate speech condemning Hollywood executives and emphasizing the need for action.
Numerous Hollywood stars have joined in solidarity, including Mariska Hargitay, Hilary Duff, Francia Raisa, Bryan Cranston, and Jason Sudeikis, all showing their support by joining the picket lines.
As the strike continues, it is evident that the entertainment industry is at a crucial turning point, with advances in technology reshaping the business landscape. The demands put forth by SAG-AFTRA reflect the need for fair treatment and recognition of the changing dynamics within the industry.
The presence of the Parks and Recreation cast underscores the unity among performers and their dedication to achieving equitable conditions. Their support adds weight to the strike’s significance and highlights the vital role that labor rights play in maintaining a thriving and just entertainment industry.
