New Delhi, Jan 1 – OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT has emerged as the undisputed leader in the AI industry, capturing a staggering 60 percent of the industry’s traffic over a span of 12 months, according to a report by Sujan Sarkar at writerbuddy.ai. The study revealed that the top 50 AI tools collectively received over 24 billion visits between September 2022 and August 2023, highlighting the significant impact of AI technology on various sectors.
During this period, ChatGPT alone accounted for 14 billion visits, cementing its position as the most popular AI tool. The report emphasized that ChatGPT’s dominance in the market is particularly noteworthy considering the immense competition and diverse range of AI tools available.
To compile the data, Sarkar utilized SEMrush, a prominent SEO tool, to analyze more than 3,000 AI tools listed across different directories. From this extensive pool, the top 50 tools were identified, representing over 80 percent of the industry’s traffic during the study period.
The report further highlighted the consistent growth of the AI industry, with an average of two billion visits per month throughout the year. However, this figure experienced a notable surge in the last six months, peaking at 3.3 billion visits. This trend underscores the increasing reliance on AI technology across various domains.
Apart from ChatGPT, other notable AI tools that witnessed substantial growth in traffic include Character AI and Google Bard, accumulating 1.8 billion and 463.4 million visits, respectively. Conversely, Craiyon, MidJourney, and Quillbot experienced a decline in traffic during the same period.
Geographically, the United States contributed the lion’s share of the traffic, with 5.5 billion visits accounting for 22.62 percent of the total visits. European countries collectively recorded 3.9 billion visits, illustrating their significant involvement in the AI industry.
Among the various AI tools, chatbot applications emerged as the most popular, attracting a staggering 19.1 billion visits. Furthermore, the report highlighted that over 63 percent of users accessed AI tools through mobile devices, reflecting the rising prevalence of mobile technology.
Additionally, the report shed light on a gender disparity among AI tool users. Male users accounted for 69.5 percent of the total, while female users represented 30.5 percent. This imbalance raises questions about the accessibility and appeal of AI technology across different demographics.
