OpenAI uses YouTube to train ChatGPT and other AI models

Date:

OpenAI, the AI startup, has reportedly taken the help of YouTube to train its AI models such as ChatGPT. According to The Information, OpenAI has secretly utilized YouTube to train its AI models, which is likely to include ChatGPT. AI models require a massive amount of data for training, and OpenAI has used the video streaming platform to its advantage. However, YouTube’s policies prohibit the use of its data for such purposes, so it remains to be seen how the Google-owned platform will respond.

The use of different platforms for training AI models is not uncommon in the industry. Elon Musk had previously accused Microsoft of using Twitter’s data to train its own AI models, which was refuted by Microsoft. With Google also being in the AI mix and YouTube owned by Google, OpenAI’s use of the platform for training its AI models will surely be met with scrutiny.

Despite this, Google could take some encouragement from the fact that its own platforms were used to train AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT. This means the company already has the dataset to train its own AI models and achieve success against its competitors in the market. In fact, Google is already working on its next-gen AI chatbot, and its next language model being trained using YouTube.

Google needs a solid win in the AI arena, where it is trailing behind the likes of ChatGPT 4.0, which is already part of Microsoft’s Bing Search. The market for AI is rapidly expanding, and Google will need to produce its own winning AI models to stay ahead of the curve.
