OpenAI Unveils GPTs, ChatGPT Store, and Assistant API at Dev Day Conference – A Game-Changer for Developers
OpenAI, the well-known creator of ChatGPT and GPT-4, made a significant announcement at its first-ever conference for developers, Dev Day. The event took place at a downtown location in San Francisco and showcased several groundbreaking features and upgrades.
Key highlights of OpenAI’s announcement include the introduction of GPTs, which allow for easy customization of ChatGPT, a dedicated store where developers can discover and purchase custom ChatGPTs, and an Assistant API designed to simplify the process of calling specific functions for applications.
During the event, OpenAI revealed that over 2 million developers are actively building on its APIs, catering to a wide range of use cases. In fact, a staggering 92% of Fortune 500 companies are leveraging OpenAI’s APIs. Furthermore, ChatGPT boasts an impressive weekly active user base of approximately 100 million.

Nadella expressed admiration for OpenAI’s work, emphasizing that the collaboration has greatly impacted Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service and stating their commitment to developing a copilot on OpenAI API.
Nadella commended both companies’ shared mission to empower individuals and organizations globally, saying, Our mission is to empower every person in every organization on the planet to achieve more. Altman responded by expressing his excitement to collaborate on artificial general intelligence (AGI) with Microsoft.
Addressing performance enhancements, OpenAI introduced GPT-4 Turbo, which improves adherence to specific instructions and provides expanded capabilities such as outputting responses in XML or JSON formats.
To assist developers, the Assistant API incorporates persistent threads, enabling them to avoid resending the entire conversation history with every new message and navigate context window limitations.
OpenAI also made pricing updates, slashing costs for models like GPT-4 Turbo, making it three times cheaper for input tokens and two times cheaper for output tokens.
