OpenAI, a US based company, has launched its official iOS app for its popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, and announced a version for Android users. The app is free to download from the App Store and allows users to have conversations with ChatGPT on their mobile devices. OpenAI plans to roll out the app to the US users first and then other countries in the upcoming weeks. With the release of the ChatGPT app, users who previously had to rely on Microsoft’s Bing for the AI chatbot can now use the official version.
The app aims to provide a seamless experience for users by supporting voice input through OpenAI’s Whisper. It also has the ability to sync all conversations to the web platform so that users can switch between platforms without any inconvenience. Even though the app offers some advantages over the web counterparts, it still faces the same privacy issues and unreliable responses. In order to address the privacy issue, OpenAI has provided the option for users to keep their conversations private.
OpenAI’s decision to launch the official ChatGPT app comes as no surprise since the AI chatbot has grown enormously popular amongst users since its launch as an experiment. In February, OpenAI introduced a ChatGPT Plus subscription plan that granted users access to GPT-4 and similar advanced language models for a small monthly fee.
The official app might help reduce cases of users falling victim to numerous spam and fake apps that falsely claimed to offer access to ChatGPT on mobile platforms. Ultimately, OpenAI’s move to provide mobile app support for ChatGPT will provide users with an effortless conversational experience on their devices and further strengthen the chatbot’s position as a leader in the market.
