OpenAI has revealed a $1m grant aimed at developing and measuring AI-enhanced cybersecurity. The firm, which boasts Microsoft among its backers, is seeking proposals for projects to help further the understanding of how AI models can support cybersecurity defence strategies. It plans to award grants of $10,000 in a variety of forms, including credits and direct funding. Among the suggested projects for consideration are creating decoy technology to misdirect attackers as well as malware mitigation and support for end users on security best practices. Offensive-security projects will not be considered. The new program followed OpenAI’s announcement of 10 $100,000 grants for research into democratic processes for setting parameters for AI implementations.
