OpenAI CEO Shares His Biggest Concerns About This Technology

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman appeared before a Senate Judiciary subcommittee recently and opened up about his worries related to rapid advancement and proliferation of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He called upon the government to regulate the technology, citing concerns like significant harm to the world that could arise from it. Tesla CEO Elon Musk echoed Altman’s worries, saying that the probability that AI could wrongfully destroy humanity is not zero.

To mitigate the possible risks of AI, tech titans, including Musk, are calling for necessary safeguards and a pause in the training of AI systems that could become more powerful than GPT-4, until they can be correctly and proactively assessed for their effects.

OpenAI is an American artificial intelligence research laboratory headquartered in San Francisco, California with offices in Palo Alto, California, and Seattle, Washington. Founded in December 2015, their aim is to ensure that the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is harnessed in a safe, responsible and beneficial way. OpenAI backs things like robots, natural language processing and other outcomes which can help humanity. It has collaborated with some of the leading tech companies in the industry to revitalize careers and develop technologies.

Sam Altman is an American entrepreneur, investor, programmer, and blogger. He is best known as the president of Y Combinator, a seed accelerator. He is also the co-founder of Loopt, a location-based social networking mobile application. He was the CEO of OpenAI, a non-profit company backed by Elon Musk, Microsoft, Amazon, Y Combinator, among others. He is currently a lecturer at Stanford University.
