Nvidia’s first quarter revenue fell by 13% year-over-year to $7.19bn. However, its data centre business, which supports artificial intelligence (AI) workloads, has grown significantly. The data centre business reported first-quarter revenue of $4.28bn, up 14% from a year ago. The computer industry is transitioning to accelerated computing to support application areas like generative AI, which Nvidia sees being infused in every product, service and business process. During its GTC 2023 financial analyst presentation, Nvidia discussed the growth of AI and its accelerated computing platform. Nvidia reported that large language models like ChatGPT are driving significant growth in its data centre business. Huang described the emergence of ChatGPT as the ChatGPT moment, analogous to the iPhone moment in 2007, which catalysed the smartphone revolution. Dell and Nvidia unveiled Project Helix, an infrastructure and software partnership that aims to simplify enterprise generative AI deployments by providing optimised hardware and software from Dell.
