YouTube influencer Blake Messick recently gave artificial intelligence a humanoid body by rigging up an inflatable man to a remote-control toy vehicle. Dubbed ChatGPT, the AI-powered inflatable looked rather amusing as it went for a stroll on the streets. Messick had a tough time getting it up and running initially, but eventually nailed the setup and got ChatGPT rolling on a snazzy lime-green toy Jeep.
The reactions from passers-by were amusing, to say the least. Some people couldn’t resist cracking jokes, while others just looked on in amazement. However, things took a turn for the worse when ChatGPT caught the attention of two homeless men. One of them began relentlessly pounding on the inflatable robot, eventually picking it up and throwing it to the ground. Messick couldn’t help but exclaim, They killed my robot.
While the incident appeared humorous on the surface, it raises concerns about the potential for AI to face violence at the hands of humans. The fact that ChatGPT was an inflatable man makes it somewhat less worrying, but it’s not hard to imagine future AI-powered robots facing similar aggression or worse.
Despite the setback, Messick’s experiment is a fascinating glimpse at the potential for AI to become more human-like. AI has made incredible strides in recent years, but creating a physical form that mimics the human body is a logical next step. While the inflatable man might not represent the most sophisticated form of AI, it’s certainly an amusing and thought-provoking experiment.
