Motor City Pizza, a popular restaurant in Lewisville, is taking a leap of faith into the world of artificial intelligence (AI) with the help of a chatbot, ChatGPT. The restaurant specializes in Detroit-style pizza, but it’s always open to creative new ideas. One of its regular customers, Winston Edmondson, was constantly pitching his pizza recipe ideas to the restaurant owner, Greg Tierney, but they never seemed to work out.
Edmondson and his daughter wanted to create a pizza that had grilled Mexican street corn (elotes) as a topping. Despite their efforts, they could not get it just right. That’s when they decided to turn to ChatGPT, which is powered by AI. Edmondson described to the chatbot the feelings he wanted to evoke in someone biting into the pizza, and it spit out a recipe that he knew was a winner.
After a few tweaks, Motor City Pizza put Winston’s Elote, or Textrano Amore, as it’s named, on the menu. The ultimate topping, according to ChatGPT’s recipe, is a fresh lime wedge for an extra burst of flavor. Tierney said that he’ll keep it on the menu as long as there’s demand for it.
Edmondson hopes that this is just the beginning of a future partnership between the restaurant and AI. He wants to convince Tierney to try a rotating AI menu item, which would be an exciting leap forward for the restaurant. Perhaps Motor City Pizza has paved the way for other restaurants to experiment with AI and elevate their menus with unique and exciting flavors.
