Facebook parent Meta has released an AI technology ‘SAM’, that is capable of recognizing and categorizing objects within images and videos, Fox News reported. This revolutionary AI model is said to be prompt, hence able to transfer zero-shot to new image distributions and tasks with ease. Meta have declared that SAM’s zero-shot performance is impressive, and is often at par or even better than prior fully supervised results. Without having been consecutively trained and exposed to different images, SAM is designed to immediately identify objects within photographs just as accurately.
The Los Angeles-based company explains that users may select objects by either writing text prompts, or by clicking them. For example, when the word ‘cat’ is written in, SAM can quickly detect and draw boxes around all cats that are appearing in the photograph. Meta is already employing technology related to SAM for activities like moderation of prohibited content, tagging photos and determining posts to recommend on Facebook and Instagram. After the availability of SAM, access to similar technology is expected to broaden significantly.
Royal Charles III has recently backed a review of the connection between slavery and the British royal family. This occurred soon after the vandalization of a Hindu temple in Ontario, of which India has asked Canada to apprehend the culprits. The Segment Anything Model (SAM) and its related dataset have been made obtainable under a non-commercial license. This will offer aid to fortify research connected to designs for computer vision. The agreement limits the use of the material to studying purposes only, and no user is allowed to download the data or images you submit to the prototype.
