Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) is taking significant steps towards implementing eco-friendly measures to ensure environmental safety in the city. In collaboration with the Institute of Urbanism and WWF Pakistan, LWMC is actively working towards creating a robust sanitation system and promoting public awareness about environmental protection.
As part of their initiatives, a group of Pakistan Environment Journalists recently visited the LWMC Head Office to participate in an environmental safety awareness activity. During the visit, CEO of LWMC, Babar Sahib Din, enlightened the guests about the company’s eco-friendly policies and the measures they have taken to protect the environment. He emphasized the importance of waste reduction, improved waste segregation processes, recycling, and overall environmental safety.
The LWMC manages the processing of 200 tonnes of waste on a daily basis at their compost plant. Through an effective segregation process, they are able to separate organic waste for compost production. Umar Chaudhary, the spokesperson of LWMC, highlighted that the visiting delegation of journalists was given a comprehensive briefing on the company’s operations in the modern monitoring room. Additionally, they were shown the LWMC compost plant and the Lakhodeir landfill site. The journalists from Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad, and Lahore expressed their appreciation for the initiatives taken by LWMC.
CEO Babar Sahib Din further shared that the organization has managed to save 1.5 lac (150,000) liters of diesel by implementing route digitalization and artificial intelligence. He also expressed his desire to promote a three-bin culture in the city, urging citizens to cooperate with LWMC in their efforts towards environmental protection. Babar Sahib Din emphasized that citizens can play a crucial role in maintaining a clean environment by adopting the habit of utilizing a three-bin system.
