Kinetica, a leading provider of an analytic database to unlock value from spatial, time-series and temporal data, recently announced its integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This move is designed to allow enterprise users to use natural language prompts to query their data assets. Previously, this process involved complex Structured Query Language (SQL) queries, which often required a select group of professionals and took a long time.
This agreement is one of the many efforts by vendors to incorporate generative AI into their products, making it simpler and more accessible for the end users. With Kinetica’s Workbench UI, users can ask questions about data in natural language and receive actionable insights within moments. Questions could range from simple to complex, with follow-up questions to uncover unexpected correlations and relationships that are remarkable.
Kinetica’s system is built on the idea of vectorization, where data is organized into fixed-sized blocks called vectors, and query operations can be performed in parallel on these vectors rather than individual data elements. This makes the processing time quick, giving enterprises a fast response time to questions they may have about their data.
Kinetica states that their ChatGPT integration is built in a way that the model does not capture any part of the data it queries. This is done by hydrating the context of the GPT-3.5 Turbo model with prompts and rules derived from the database metadata, enabling the correct SQL query to be generated without risking the exposure of the underlying data. The company also intends to improve the querying feature with GPT-4 integration and make it accessible to more enterprises through their programmatic SQL API.
Founded in 2009 and based out of Arlington, Virginia, Kinetica has become a leader in the data space by providing analytic databases with vectorization and smart query features. The company was founded by Nima Negahban, who has acted as CEO and Co-Founder since the start. With him at the helm, Kinetica has established itself as a trusted provider in the tech industry, building relationships with leaders in various industries such as healthcare, telecommunications, defense, banking and automotive.
