Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter and Tesla, has recently revealed a new venture called X.AI which might have something to do with artificial intelligence. According to a company filing submitted to the SEC, Musk’s close associate Jared Birchall is serving as the secretary of X.AI. The filing also showed that it costs $100,000 to incorporate X.AI in Nevada.
The name of the company suggests AI-focus with the use of the letter ‘X’ being recurring in Musk’s other businesses such as Twitter Inc. which was rebranded to X Corp, and owned by X Holding Corp. Moreover, the ‘X’ holds importance to Musk as its used by his financial firm, X.com which later became PayPal in 2000.
Regarding AI, Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 which gathered high attention with the launch of its ChatGPT. As of now, Musk has reportedly recruited Igor Babuschkin, a former Google Deepmind AI team member earlier this year, to design a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
However, despite being one of the field’s experts, Musk signed a public letter asking for a pause on AI training for at least six months, moderated by the Future of Life Institute. The purpose of the pause is to address possible risks involved and to guarantee a ‘long AI summer’ according to the authors.
The new X.AI venture is thought to not involve cryptocurrency, as Musk declared to favor AI over cryptocurrency on March 3rd. Nevertheless, Musk has yet to publicly comment on the venture and its prospects.
