As with any new operating system, the features, capabilities and improvements it brings can excite us in anticipation. With software being such a fundamental part of our devices, the iOS update for the iPhone is next on the list to debut. With the release of iOS 16 and the speculation around the upcoming release of the new version, it’s time to talk about the potential and what could be coming with the debut of iOS 17 and the upgrades and improvements it could mark.
Apple is undoubtedly going to introduce some major changes and when it comes to this iOS version, the home screen layout is likely to get some special treatment. Customization of icons and widgets was seen in the prior release of iOS 14 and we would like to see some movements in that direction in this new version. Widgets that are the same size as icons could be a great addition and a plus, as they would display all the information right there on the home screen without taking up extra space. Such a feature could deliver all the info in one glance, like the activity rings and weather conditions, without ever needing to open an app.
The conversation with Siri is an important feature of the iOS system and it could get an even bigger step forward with the AI’s development in iOS 17. With voice generating capabilities, it would be possible to create deeper conversations and meanings, enabling you to ask for explanations and have answers directly generated and responded back, among many other things.
We also spend a lot of time with Safari and so far, it has been a secure and fairly easy to use browser, but improvements to that end could take if further for iOS 17. The emergence of a dark mode for those pages that don’t already have could be a great addition, as well as an improved reader mode and the ability to configure the appearance of frequently used pages.
For even more security, iCloud Private Relay could be integrated with the iOS 17, so that all the applications would be protected from both our ISPs and Apple. In addition, the automation of Shortcuts could be enhanced with potential features such as the execution of an action every hour. Other small changes such as the option to set a password to prevent the shutdown or restart of the device, duplicate document detection in the Files application, and a double row of widgets on the lock screen have also been suggested and we look forward to see which ones will actually make the cut.
While nothing is certain until Apple debuts the iOS 17 in June during WWDC 2023, we can only guess and speculate what exciting changes and improvements will come with it. Exciting times lay ahead and we hope that the new version will answer to the expectations and desires of the Apple users.
