Insight Enterprises, a Fortune 500 Solutions Integrator, has announced its partnership with Girls Who Code, an international nonprofit organization that aims to bridge the gender gap in technology. The collaboration aims to expand career opportunities in technology for young girls and non-binary students who are historically underrepresented in the field.
As part of the partnership, Insight recently hosted a two-week Summer Immersion Program (SIP) for 54 high-school students. The virtual course, which ran from June 19-30, introduced the students to game design, with a focus on sisterhood and career exploration. The program aims to make coding education accessible to students identifying as girls or non-binary, including those from Black, Latinx, and low-income communities.
Through the SIP, coding education is taught using user experience design, rapid prototyping, and playtesting. Insight believes that by providing mentorship and accessibility to young girls who show a passion for tech, they can contribute to changing the underrepresentation of women in the industry. The company’s collaboration with Girls Who Code aims to inspire and empower young girls with the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to succeed in technology.
Throughout the program, Insight technologists and people leaders, including the chief human resources officer, CEO, CFO, and senior vice president of client experience, shared their experiences as women in the technology industry. The mentors also introduced topics such as generative artificial intelligence, 3D game building in Unity, female experiences in inventorship, and developing soft skills to overcome biases.
Girls Who Code acknowledges that fostering a passion for computer science among young women is not enough. It is equally important to build pathways that ensure equal access to opportunities and turn their interests into lucrative and exciting careers. The organization aims to close the gender gap in tech and create a diverse tech workforce that accurately represents the world we live in today.
Insight’s commitment to supporting Girls Who Code extends beyond this recent partnership. In March, volunteers from the Afro Professionals and Allies at Insight resource group sponsored a Girls Who Code hackathon in Charlotte, North Carolina. Over 100 girls participated in the event, gaining exposure to various technology career paths such as AI, robotics, virtual reality, and graphic design.
