Infogrid, a startup that uses AI-driven data to monitor various aspects of buildings and facilities in real time, has announced a $90 million Series B funding round led by Northzone and AO Proptech. William Cowell de Gruchy, Infogrid’s CEO, stated that the investment will be used for product development, hiring, and customer acquisition efforts.
De Gruchy founded Infogrid in 2018 from his experience in “diligence analysis.” During the visits to companies for evaluations, he noticed the lack of real-time digital data to drive efficiency and identify potential health and environmental risks. Infogrid uses sensors and IoT data for air quality, occupancy, cleaning needs, energy usage, and CO2 levels to help customers optimize the performance of their buildings.
At the moment, they are already collecting nearly 4 billion data points per month and continuously training their AI through user feedback. Some of the current competitors in the market include BrainBox, Aquicore, Mesa, Facilio, and Building IOT, who provide similar services in automation and data analysis.
Apart from offering such services, regulations such as London banning rentals below a certain energy threshold are also pushing companies to invest in monitoring platforms. In addition, as more companies look for greener real estate, Infogrid helps reduce their footprint and provide sustainability reports in the process.
William Cowell de Gruchy has had an interesting career journey. He has a Masters in Business Administration from Oxford University, studied cage fighting, and took part in a number of entrepreneurial ventures before becoming an army officer and working in a strategic advisory firm’s due diligence division. His current role as Infogrid’s CEO is a testament to his abilities to think outside the box and lead a successful business.
Infogrid currently has 250 employees but their clientele consists of some of the largest real estate services companies in the world. While the company does not officially provide any revenue figures, their estimates of 5x growth last year and influx of investments in the IoT market imply that the business is running well.
Overall, Infogrid is in a position to use the new investment to continue their operations in the various domains they cover. With the new specialists they will hire, they are likely to be a major player in the digital building monitoring technology market in the near future.
