Infineon Launches PSOC Edge MCUs for ML Applications

Date:

Infineon Technologies AG has unveiled its latest product lineup catering specifically to machine learning applications: the PSOC Edge family of microcontrollers (MCUs). These new releases include the E81, E83, and E84 series, each offering various performance levels, features, and memory options, designed to empower developers to create innovative ML-enabled solutions for IoT, consumer electronics, and industrial sectors.

At the heart of these microcontrollers lies the powerful Arm Cortex-M55 architecture, enhanced with Helium DSP support, Arm Ethos-U55, and Cortex-M33 integrated with Infineon’s NNLite technology for neural network acceleration. With a wide range of peripherals, memory options, and hardware security features, along with connectivity options like USB, Ethernet, WiFi 6, BTBLE, developers have the tools needed to bring their ML ideas to life seamlessly.

These microcontrollers are ideal for a variety of applications, particularly within Human Machine Interface (HMI) devices found in appliances, industrial machinery, smart home systems, security devices, robotics, and wearables. Notably, all three series support voice/audio sensing for activation and control. The E83 and E84 MCUs offer advanced HMI functionalities such as ML-based wake-up capabilities, vision-based position detection, and face/object recognition. The E84 series takes it a step further by integrating a low-power graphics display, meeting the demands of various application scenarios.

This new PSOC Edge E8x series from Infineon opens up endless possibilities for developers looking to incorporate machine learning into their products, promising innovation and efficiency in the ever-evolving landscape of technology.
