India’s startup ecosystem is thriving, with women-led startups making a significant impact in the tech industry. According to a recent report by Tracxn, India is now home to over 8,000 startups founded by women, with a remarkable cumulative funding of nearly $23 billion.
Key highlights from the report:
– Women entrepreneurs account for over 18% of startups in the Indian tech industry, with more than 14% among funded companies.
– Women-led startups have secured a noteworthy 14.8% share of the overall Indian tech funding landscape, amounting to nearly $155 billion.
– The Delhi-NCR region leads in the number of women-led startups, followed by Bengaluru and Mumbai.
– Out of the 8,000 startups, more than 2,000 led by women have received funding, while approximately 6,000 remain unfunded, with 590 generating revenue exceeding $30,000.
Interestingly, the share of funding raised by women-led startups has steadily increased over the past decade, representing more than 15% of the total startup funding in India from 2020 to 2022. The first two months of 2024 alone have witnessed $100 million in funding in this space.
Furthermore, the report highlights that there are 2,300 funded women-led startups, with 13.4% progressing to the Series A stage and 3% advancing to the Series C stage or beyond. India’s tech startup ecosystem ranks second globally after the US in terms of funding raised by companies with women founders.
In terms of sectors, B2C e-commerce leads with 3,434 companies, followed by internet-first brands and software-as-a-service. Key investors in this space include LetsVenture, Wellfound, and Venture Catalysts, who have been actively supporting women-led startups.
