India and the US have an important partnership when it comes to global progress. Recently, Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, conducted a wide outreach to over 40 states of the US and addressed the state assembly of New Hampshire.
Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu proposed that India and the US are guided by the same values and vision and share deep-rooted friendship and partnership. The countries have collaborated on several aspects, such as defence, renewable energy, education, health, technology, innovation, start-ups, among others. The envoy also stressed that the Indian drug sector accounts for 40 percent of the generic medications present in the US.
In addition, Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu mentioned about India’s zero-subsidy domestic lighting program and the collaboration between NASA and India’s Space Research Organization, ISRO, and their joint projects in examining the climate change and advancing technologies such as Sythetic Aperture Radar and General Purpose Technologies.
Furthermore, the family of both President Biden and Prime Minister Modi view India-US ties as a ‘Partnership for Global Good’. The two countries are part of the QUAD, IPEF and I2U2 blocks, and are collaborating on a number of challenges such as global supply chain, climate change, terrorism, cyber domain, and health security.
The Indian diaspora also plays an active role in connecting the two nations, as evidenced by the appointment of a proud Indian American as the President of World Bank. India is also making great strides in their own initiatives, including the biometric programme Aadhar and various health protection missions such as Ayushman Bharat. Moreover, 40 percent of all digital payments across the globe originate from India, which shows the power of this emerging nation.
During the pandemic, India supplied vaccines to more than 100 countries, and proved to be a reliable partner in bad times. As India leads the G-20 this year, it displays a consensus builder attitude in case of ongoing tensions and strife.
The Indian Ambassador to the US has also mentioned that “Much of India that we dream of lies ahead of us”, and has requested other nations such as the US to join India on this journey.
Taranjit Singh Sandhu is an Indian diplomat, currently serving as the Ambassador of India to the United States, since October 2020. He is a 1989-batch Indian Foreign Services Officer, who has held various positions such as Deputy High Commissioner of India to South Africa and Director of the United Nations Political and Peace Building Affairs.
