OpenAI recently released its ChatGPT generative AI product. The product has become increasingly popular, but it didn’t include settings to restrict the collection and use of user data. This caused several countries, including Italy, to ban the product.
However, OpenAI eventually added a setting that allows for users to restrict the collection of their data. This toggle setting is easy to set up and available for all ChatGPT users worldwide.
If you want to keep your data from being used to train OpenAI’s models, log in to your ChatGPT account in a browser and follow these simple steps to make sure your data remains private. Keep in mind, though, that the setting will cause your chat history to be deleted after 30 days.
OpenAI is also in the planning stage of launching a ChatGPT Business account that will enable users to have the privacy setting turned on by default. This could potentially enable the user to keep their chat history even after their data is no longer used for the training of ChatGPT’s models.
OpenAI notes that user data is used for improving their services via model training and no data is shared for selling services, advertising, or building personal profiles.
